A ridiculous burden to place on the shoulders of a very good and hard-working BBC staff orchestra.

    A complete waste of electricity!

He's an important figure in his field and the concert could have been both fun and informative, given a different script and speaker - a sort of live Composer of the Week. But the childish presentation really dragged the whole thing down.

I caught up with this concert this afternoon. The presentation was indeed

        REALLY EMBARRASSING.

Why, oh why, do the BBC still do this?

Who? Jess Gillam the saxophonist? If not, initials will probably be enough
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you. I had an inkling :-)

And strangely absent from the BBC's now notorious 97.
Do you think she's paid less than £150k?
One would wish that were indeed the case.....

Agreed. It made me cringe, but I can see an argument for illuminating the narratives live. A well-known actor would be a better choice.

I am convinced the BBC are EMBARRASSED by classical music (OK - let's not argue the toss over film scores vs concert music), and believe this will promote it. Of course, they are preaching to the converted in these parts, but I've not yet met anyone who thought this style of presentation was a good idea. Desperate!

Oooh - I would wish rather that she was offered (and accepted) a much larger salary than that, B-o-D. By a rival broadcasting company, with an exclusive contract, to present television programmes on, say, synchronised swimming.

Going back to biographical details, not only was he a writer of serious works back in the 50s he was Johnny Williams the jazz pianist appearing in the jazz clubs of New York and also on sessions for Norman Granz Verve recordings.

Film music I fine in context but on its own it usually just becomes a complete bore and tiresome. A concert that I will delete from my Humax's recording list.

The media publicity at the time she was poached from ITN/Classic FM was that it had to be at a salary of £250,000, and considering the amount of television she does, I can't see that she earns less than £150,000. But she has other business interests: scroll down for Our Team http://peanutandcrumb.com/team/ . I don't think it's the kind of company that the BBC pays salaries into, but who knows?

I thought apart from KD's presentation, was rather good. The saxophonisist and all the other solists did a fine job.

bbc: get rid of KD she definetely spoilt the evening

Gushing cr*p from KD from the stage. Would be better suited to 'Play School' or 'Blue Peter' (if they are still going?).
