The question someone raised, 'Why is this work in the world?' (or does it need to be in the world, I guess) is answered by me along the lines of, those melodies, from sax, oboe, and trumpet, seem to be 'won' from the shifting, 'geological' dimensions of the music, the more impersonal processes, and to affirm the human in a way that does not happen in 'Earth Dances'. Something won from experience of life, too, perhaps. A crude way of putting it, but something like that, anyway!
