I fear that the only great music in the first Prom is the Beethoven. For those of us abiding in the sticks who must invest time and filthy lucre in getting to the RAH, 35 minutes of genius may be judged to be poor value in the Age of Austerity.

It bodes well.

Thank you, EA for your stirling work to bring the Proms Programme before us.
Thanks edashtav for your timely return to the forum.
The example which you set of fair, unbiased reports on the Prom performances will be most welcome.
So what's not to like? Give an opinion for those other forumites who were not able to hear a particular night's performance but let's all keep those comments fair and without prejudice.

I feel it's the prejudices of our fellow boarders that add so much sparkle to the cut and thrust of debates on FOR3, even though much of what we write is play-fighting. Just by naming two Bs, I have caused offence to one claque and identified with another, and in each case naming the protagonists isn't difficult: some use pseudonyms that are flags of allegiance. Mine reveals a concern for small towns, by the way!

Whilst BrItten's non-verbal symphonies are more symphonic than his Choral ones, each has serious, even life threatening, structural flaws. My prejudice? Britten was no symphonist!

Many think that the Britten 'Sinfonia da Requiem' is a masterpiece. After I heard Andrew Manze conduct the work with the Münchner Philharmoniker in Munich I became an admirer!

I could easily live without the Simple Symphony, and possibly the Spring Symphony, but would really miss the SdR and the Cello Symphony. Should he not have called them by those titles, I wonder? Would you then like them any more, edashtav?
