Forum Calendar: 2017 Proms + 2017 EIF Queen's Hall concerts relayed on R3

I've filled in the Forum Calendar entries for this summer's Proms, and also the 15 Edinburgh Festival concerts from the Queen's Hall that will be broadcast on R3 in August. Anyone interested in taking a look can obviously jump ahead on the calendar. For the most part, I've settled on a general formula, so the style is generally the same as in past years. Getting more granular, regarding the Proms:

    1. Some details are obviously missing, like the full program details for Proms 8, 11/12, 15, 19, 27, 47, 53, 55 and 65, PCM 3, and the Proms at...Tate Modern concert, as well as the cast for Oklahoma!. I presume that an actor will portray Sir Henry Wood for the Family Proms (11/12), so I put "Actor TBA" there. Likewise, a narrator for Lincoln Portrait is missing at this time. Of course, those details will emerge as the time gets closer to the particular Prom in question, or perhaps just before the season starts.

    2. Hyperlinks: I've included those to pages from both the BBC Proms site and the RAH's site. I've not yet added links to the actual venues for the Proms at.... series, as those are not yet live. I may add those as the time gets closer, or when I find that such links are live. I've put a hyperlink to the same general TV schedule for those Proms which will be broadcast on TV. (Not sure if I want to get really detailed and actually find the on-line links from the BBC Four, BBC One, and BBC Two pages later; there's a thought.)

    3. I've added "Proms debut artist" and "Proms debut ensemble" where appropriate, from cross-checking the Proms performance archive. Relatively few such additions are present, but there is one very notable surprise among them. (I'll let you guys search for it, for those who don't already have the hard copy volume.)

    4. Likewise, I've added "first performance at The Proms" where appropriate. (One is a very interesting surprise, given that particular Prom, which tends to get a lot of attention, to put it one way.) Where a work is receiving its world/European/UK/London premiere, then it's obviously implied that it's a Proms first performance as well.

    5. For a very few Proms, I've created my own unofficial title that obviously has no sanction from the BBC or the RAH. Thus Prom 37 is "Rachmaninov Night" and Prom 67 is "Mendelssohn Matinee". For the John Williams Prom, Prom 8, I mashed up the BBC Proms and RAH titles into a single title.

    6. In general, as usual, a blank line in the concert program indicates the interval. A few concerts don't observe this "blank line rule", e.g. PCM 1, since in those cases, it's more visually pleasing to break up the listings by individual composer. (I still choose to omit running times for works, again my own personal quirk.)

    Regarding Edinburgh:

    * All but one of the concerts are live for relay on R3. The odd one out is the Gringolts Quartet, with the concert on August 12, but the relay on August 23.
    * The first of these R3 EIF relays, the August 5 Dunedin Consort performance, is actually on a Saturday. Given last year, where one Saturday concert was originally announced as live, but ended up being delayed-broadcast during the work week, my guess is that the same thing will happen here.
    * Likewise, as in the past, I've guessed the interval for the EIF concerts, since the EIF programs don't clearly indicate them. (Probably 1/3 of the guesses are incorrect.)

Of course, last-minute changes will occur, as inevitably they do, and my own format and stylistic idiosyncracies have probably introduced other mistakes. I'll continue to refine details as the season gets closer.

(It would be curious, for anyone with too much spare time, to do the Google Analytics to see how much traffic the Forum Calendar gets during the Proms season. My guess is not much, certainly compared with the BBC Proms' own page.)

    Bsp!

Comes into its own once everything's in full swing and the immediately forthcoming concerts appear on the forum homepage.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you so much for doing that; it's a pleasure to browse the season using the calendar, in contrast to the frustration of all the clicking backwards and forwards on the proms website.

Thanks to ff and gc for the kind words. Some updates to the calendar:
        (a) Prom 15: a few details to the Scott Walker Prom, with a revised title and the addition of two guest artists.
        (b) Prom 31: confirmation of Laurent Naouri as Méphistopheles (which I assumed would be the case initially, since LN is the Méphistopheles for the performance at the Berlioz Festival later in August)
        (c) Prom 59: Kate Lindsey is out as Sesto, but for the best of reasons. Anna Stéphany steps into the role of Sesto, and at a guess, I've put Michèle Losier as Annio, based on the cast change timings set for ML and Rachel Kelly in the role. ML is set to sing most of the performances, including the final Glyndebourne performance just before the date of Prom 59. (This is one of the very few times where I can claim to be ahead of the BBC Proms and Royal Albert Hall calendar listings on these details.)

More updates to come later, no doubt.

I was wondering if you meant something like Andrew Slater's one-pager, on the FoR3 page. From my manual data entries into the Forum Calendar, the only sort of 'list' is when one clicks on the "Calendar" link and the current month comes up. Of course, one can jump ahead to July 2017, August 2017, and September 2017 for the full panoply of each month's display. But that seems to be it. I'm probably misunderstanding what you're asking.

BTW, thanks to Andrew Slater's one pager, I went and updated various details that most recently changed. The big information gap is still the cast for Oklahoma!, besides individuals like the narrator for Lincoln Portrait and the presumed actor as Sir Henry Wood for the family matinee.

New updates to the Forum Calendar, specifically:
                    (a) Proms 10 and 11, the Family Proms (although I'm still waiting for the actor who will portray Sir Henry Wood, assuming I'm not misreading the PR-text on the Proms page about these concerts). For EA, you can use my version of the program for the concert threads, if you so wish (granted my bias in liking my presentation format better than that on the BBC Proms' page). It is nice to see a world premiere on the docket, and by a female composer at that, not to mention another 1st performance at The Proms of a work by another female composer of note from a century ago.
                    (b) Prom 65, the Stax Records Prom, with the full performer roster now, including one very notable Proms debut performer, which. in the context of The Proms, is perhaps not unusual ;) .

                    PS: Further updates:
                    (c) Proms at ... Stage@The Dock, Hull: addition of Grace Evangeline Mason work (already in Andrew Slater's one-pager)
                    (d) Prom 23, Israel in Egypt: new soprano, Zoë Brookshaw, in place of Anna Devin (not in AS' one pager, as this happened after he put his one-pager on-line)
                    (e) Prom 62, Chineke!: addition of Handel and Chevalier de St. Georges works (already in AS' one-pager)

                      Further updates:
                      (a) Prom 8: updated performer list for the John Williams Prom (which means that the "Proms debut artist" status of Jess Gillam and Annelien Van Wauwe gets moved from their later Proms appearances)
                      (b) Prom 27: addition of the James Morrison Trio to the performer roster (with a slight tweak on their debut description, a granular detail that no one will notice)

I'll also start retro-adding the encores to each Calendar entry for archival purposes. Since we've already had 3 encores in 2 Proms, it sounds like a semi-good idea .

                        - it sounds like an excellent idea. I was just looking back at the BBC archive to check something which occurred to me regarding the 'Great encores' thread. Still have to rely on memory (in this case after 17 years) for the actual encore.

Thanks for the updates, bsp - I think I've just about caught up now

The actor you've been waiting for is Rory Kinnear - the BBC page has now been updated.

The Oklahoma prom listing now contains cast details.

No doubt more changes are to come ...

To Andrew, much thanks for the heads-up about the cast updates for both the Family Proms this Sunday and the Oklahoma! Proms. Both Calendar listings are now updated.

Also, for archival purposes, I tweaked the John Williams Prom program(me) order to acknowledge that the 'Raiders' March was first, before the Goodbye, Mr. Chips Overture, and also to list the encores.
