Well, as some like to say in the USA:

    "But wait, there's....more!!!!"
    Namely, c/o this link:

    Saturday, August 19, 2017

    Schoenberg: Gurre-Lieder
LSO & London Symphony Chorus, SSR

(No clue about the soloists at this moment. We'll learn more in just over 2 weeks, of course.)

      bsp, you rock!

btw, how did you tie the Gurre-Lieder to a RAH performance? Is it assumed any performance of a big work like this in London in August is going to be a Proms performance?

By the same token, can we deduce from the same website (and from the fact it is not listed on the soloist's own website engagements nor the orchestra's diary):

      Tuesday, August 15, 2017

      Alban Berg: Violin Concerto

Scottish Chamber Orchestra , Conductor: Robin Ticciati, Christian Tethlaff, vln

Yup, that's the idea. I work on the assumption that during The Proms, nothing else orchestrally will really be going on in London at either the Barbican or the Royal Festival Hall. That makes the RAH the default option for big orchestral concerts like this one.

Good catch, and the answer here is yes also. I admit to dropping the ball on this one and blowing by it, probably because I saw "Scottish Chamber Orchestra" and subliminally assumed that this performance was in Edinburgh for the Festival there.

There is one more semi-probable guess, from reading the NYOGB's site for their Summer 2017 tour. This is that scheduled program:

        Francisco Coll: Mural (UK premiere)
        Thomas Adès: Polaris
        Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring

        NYOGB; Thomas Adès, conductor

You can see that the NYOGB has concert dates at Snape Maltings and Symphony Hall, Birmingham on this tour. The NYOGB has had a regular gig at The Proms for several years running now, so it's not much of a stretch to speculate that they'll be back at the RAH this summer in early August. And while it is yet another go for Le sacre, I think the NYOGB kids will add extra energy to this rendition. Plus, the audience that night will be getting two contemporary works, so it's a fair 'price to pay' for Весна священная.

If the Proms 2017 are going to be webcast in lossless FLAC, well......gamechanger.....!

Indeed; from scanning the WEDO's site as well as the Lucerne Festival's summer calendar, this is the collated WEDO's itinerary in the immediate vicinity of The Proms:

August 1, 2, 5: Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires
              August 13: Waldbühne, Berlin
              August 16, 17: Lucerne Festival
              August 18, 20: Salzburg Festival

So for Danny B. and the WEDO (and perhaps Martha A., if The Force is with The Proms, so to speak) to get to the RAH, it would have to be either between Buenos Aires and Berlin, or after Salzburg, IMHO.

One other educated guess-type maybe-possibility-thingy is the CBSO and MG-T, where they have a tour concert in Lucerne on Sunday, September 3 with this program:

Pēteris Vasks: Cantabile for string orchestra
Edward Elgar: Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85
Sergei Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 44

              Gautier Capuçon, cello
              City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
              Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, conductor

It's not difficult to imagine a "stopover" at the RAH by the CBSO and MG-T on the way to Lucerne.

The trial says that it's going to be available for 5 months, so that puts us into September. Hopefully it will continue after that.

Very likely, since the Berlioz Festival in France this summer features this event on August 30:

                      Berlioz: La Damnation de Faust

                      Ann Hallenberg, mezzo-soprano (Marguerite)
                      Michael Spyres, tenor (Faust)
                      Laurent Naouri, bass-baritone (Mephistopheles)
                      Ashley Riches, bass-baritone (Brander)

                      Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique
                      Monteverdi Choir
                      National Youth Choir of Scotland
                      Sir John Eliot Gardiner, conductor

Given the other information to date, the most likely Proms date would be either August 29 or August 27. August 29 sounds totally insane, because the artists would have to catch a ridiculously early flight to France the morning of the 30th, to get to the hall in France in time for the performance (which may explain why the Berlioz Festival concert starts at 9 PM). However, of course, "totally insane" doesn't mean wrong, necessarily. I hope that it's the 27th, given a choice.

The Charlotte Bray note, however, is incorrect. But that is the fault of CB's own website, for giving the wrong year for the premiere of her cello concerto. That was at last year's Proms on August 14, 2016.

Looking forward to this. I hope the sound for The Sixteen Choir/Harry Christophers will be better this year than last(if they will be performing).

So the weekend Aug 18th/19th/ looking to be a massed choral event (just glad that it's not a German orchestra playing the Mahler 2). Wonder what choral feast is in store for Sunday ? Berlioz Grande Messe ? Mind you they did that combo a couple of years back.
