The Robert Simpson Society website hasn't been updated since February 2014. In addition, two of its Committee members, ie: President Emeritus, John McCabe, and one of its Vice Presidents, Ronald Stevenson, both departed the globe two years ago, yet are still listed thereon. I suspect this Society itself has done much the same thing and has simply withered on the vine, along with performances of his symphonies, none having been performed at the Proms since 1990 ...

I went to a cracking performance of Berio's Accordo by BCMG a few years ago where we were all fed with freshly made amaretti biscuits

          Would that be Mary Berio?

Hmm ... Saint-Saens' Wedding Cake; Messiaen's Eclairs; First Movement of Beethoven's Fifth (Allegro con brioche); Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flours; Rossini's Duetto buffo di Due Gateaux; Strauss' Three Holy Kings from the Yeast ...

Would they be Rubbra's op 43 (second set of Spenser sonnets)?

Were that the case, I rather doubt that an announcer would have heard the sound of just four hands clapping...

Possibly, unless they simply Mel ted in the mouth.

Bach has a lot to answer for with his Coffee Cantata; dough! Obuhov didn't help with his Croissant Or. Then there were those Schönberg pupils who ended up as mainly Hollywood composers, for egg sample. Also Vladimir ReBake-off, with his Mélomimiques for piano in which he was presciently sending up Mel. And Victoria with his sponge before all of them. Busoni goes into some of these creations, though, as Stra-whisk-y knew well.

                        Time for Coates, methinks...

I guess they would have been played by a Rubbra band...

I see that the West Eastern Divan Orchestra and Barenboim and Argerich are playing this programme in Lucerne in the orchestra . As the orchestra has become rather a fixture at the Proms I hope they bring this to the RAH

Ravel, Ma mère l'Oye (version for orchestra)
Shostakovich, Piano Concerto no. 1 in C minor for piano, trumpet and string orchestra, Op.35
Ravel, Le Tombeau de Couperin (version for orchestra)
Berg, Three Pieces for Orchestra, Op.6

I see there is a Bergen/Ed Gardner Concert performance of Peter Grimes at Edinburgh - likely to appear the the Proms? (If so, on that date I'll probably be nearer to Edinburgh than London). No doubt close examination of other performers visiting the UK for Edinburgh could fuel similar speculation.... (however, its Saturday morning and there are things to get on with....)
