I was wondering whether to write some code to download it automatically to my website, as copying and pasting with the new format will be a pain in the neck, when up popped Simon B's post! Thanks, SimonB

I might still write some code (next week at the earliest) so that I can get it to update automatically every week, to take into account updates, and it just might work next year without any work on my part if they stick to the same format. Watch this space ......

Proms 2017 - The new seasons been announced where's the thread?

Proms 2017 - The new season's been announced. Yay! but where's the thread and who's going to start it off properly. At first glance it looks pretty good though some will no doubt beg to differ. Some jazz, r&b, etc to pee off the classical purists too. Prom 19 is a great idea. A good amount of Shostakovich and Prom 13: Malcolm Sargent's 500th Prom looks interesting. Can't wait. Let the fun begin!

It's under Performance but should be under Proms. Perhaps a host could sort it out?

In the 'The Proms', why is PROMS 2013 a 'category'?
It has a different icon next to it.

Also, would it be possible to order the section so that the newest year is at the top?
With some of us hoping to still be around for a good few years, there will be a lot of scrolling down by then.

I agree with you Alison post #224.
Once again I will have to select judiciously which proms I attend due to limited funds. I like a relatively comfy seat in the side stalls when I do attend - and my enjoyment of standing for concerts is not the same as of my youth.

You're beginning to sound like Suzie Klein before last year's Ibiza Prom. I recall her calling people "snobs" long before anyone had raised even a murmur.

I did use the word "snobs" in a previous year (in response to some of the comments) - but I haven't done so yet so I guess Eine Alpensinfonie that you are the one jumping the gun. I'm ambivalent in regards to the effect of having non classical proms at the Proms but I welcome one and all and cherish the wealth of knowledge from some of the 'purists' too but I also welcome the efforts of the organisers to be more inclusive especially regarding younger or diverse audiences and indeed performers. The Ten Pieces Prom, The Relaxed Prom, Prom 62 featuring Chineke! and the very talented young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason are just some examples.

                  Reorganisation of threads under way.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

This is the thread for general Proms discussion. Alpie has offered once again to produce a separate thread for each concert: these will be 'released' roughly a week before each concert to allow for some discussion before the performance

Old Proms are now listed newest first, as requested. Investigating why 2013 has a different icon … :-) Also, some of the concert threads seem to be invisible. Will check.

I wonder ( stopping short of being a real Bradshaw's nerd) what "last train home" issues people have with the Proms, and indeed other venues.
In my part of the world we are lucky, with trains leaving Waterloo until midnight and sometimes beyond.
If the Piccadilly line won't serve some people, the fact that the Met Line stops running between Aldgate & Wembley Park after 10 pm on Mon/Tue/Wed nights, might be problematic.

Seems there have been changes to 'Proms on TV'. I went back to my plan to trim it a bit and noticed that the Pathetique (Prom 17) is now showing as 'Proms on TV' at the bottom of the listing despite it not being listed on the TV schedule page. Better check the others...

Everyone gearing up for Saturday's free-for-all with the online booking system?

I have read previously (possibly on this forum) that some people ignore the Proms Planner and online deadline, wait a while and then book tickets nearer the time direct from the RAH site - presumably relying on returns and unutilised corporate tickets, but benefiting from being able to choose your seat. I'm tempted by this approach, as I can never start the online process until late morning and therefore am always way down the queue. Can anyone comment - how long do you wait before checking the ticket situation subsequently? Do you just keep checking the RAH site periodically for the concerts you are interested in? Does it always work, or do sold-out concerts remain sold out?

I tend to sit pressing F5 from about 08:58:30 hoping to get in the queue... Normally I land around the 1500 mark.

Regarding your point about choosing seats, I think (if memory serves) you can do this via the Proms Planner. The computer will allocate you the "best" seats in the section you specified, but you can hand tweak those as part of the online process.

I decided this year to get my season pass at the hall, rather than going online. I got there a few minutes after nine and joined about 100 people queueing on the steps. It became a pleasant occasion meeting a few familiar faces and chatting, and it took about an hour to meet the friendly staff and secure my booking.

It's a slightly odd series of programmes this year, but it usually turns out to be more rewarding than it looks on paper. Much as I enjoy them I could manage without the Rachmaninov Concertos since they have had airings for about three seasons in a row. I notice that quite a lot of familiar works feature lesser known performers, perhaps this might be a good thing.

Incidentally the familiar rear facade of the RAH has an enormous amount of building work in progress, blocking some of the usual entrances, so I'm expecting quite a bit of confusion unless the jobs are finished by July 14th
