I can see where Barbirollians is coming from in a first impression impression, from just a first glance at the season. However, some immediate surprises hit me, like Martinu's Field Mass with Hrusa, and Kodaly's Budavari Te Deum at the Last Night. The "Proms at" series outside of the RAH has some nice tweaks as well. I confess that I wondered about the Cincinnati Symphony, because they're going to be at Edinburgh, and the Pittsburgh Symphony, because they'll be on tour in Europe as well, but I didn't have the guts to speculate that they might be coming to The Proms. It'll be the Proms debut for the Cincinnati SO, and the late Chris Newman would have been very happy to learn of the Pittsburghers' return. I suspect that I'll notice more surprises in the coming weeks, as I look again (and again, and again......).

Sadly, Prom 15 with the music of Scott Walker looks a missed opportunity.
Disappointing to only feature music from 50 years ago, when much of his most extraordinary music is from the last 20 or so.
And " Godlike Genius" ?
He really doesn't need Julian Cope's endorsement.
Anyway, I'll soon find some good stuff in the listings I'm sure, but dear god, just for once could somebody schedule a season, any season, of classical music and leave out the Sibelius VC. I mean, we all love it, ( well I guess most of us do ), but even so......Last edited by teamsaint; 20-04-17, 15:53.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.
