I was lucky enough to be there last week, was in tears by the end of the encore. It could have gone on all night as far as I was concerned, every time they repeated the main theme, it turned the emotional screws that bit more.
I had never seen (or really heard) Martha Argerich before, I couldn't believe how someone with so much power could have such a delicate touch in the lyrical sections of the Liszt. And she is so good to watch -- we were sitting opposite and could just see the tops of her hands. They glided up and down the keyboard as casually as if she were scrolling down her i-pad, and then she'd finish off each line with a little flourish of her wrist. Loved the way too she kept smoothing back errant wisps of hair in a very girly way -- no sign of that famous "uppity female" attitude dimming then :-)

As noted above, Barenboim and Argerich played this same encore in April last year at a Staatskapelle Berlin concert in the RFH. It was wonderful then and, happily I was in the hall for this one too so had the pleasure of seeing them do the Schubert twice."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
