Thanks ts. £35 for 3 CDs. Think I’ll wait and see if the price goes easy.

Yes, the first two issues really are reference-level for Dutilleux musically, in staggering sound (even by today's exalted 24-bit standards) & the third should complete a great collection. Advertised in this month's Gramophone but I can't find it on sale anywhere yet...

I once got hold of a Ramones album in the calendar year before it was released, but I guess these days September means September.

Anyway, it's on my list, so thanks for the timely re- recommendation .

Has the Orchestra appointed a principal timpanist?
Antoine Siguré has been confirmed as Principal Timpanist - an appointment which should please many. His appearances with the orchestra in recent months have been stunning. Last night he made a fine contribution to a memorable Oedipus Rex at the RFH. It was on R3 I think; I quite envied listeners, who were spared the silly antics on the platform. Sadly the Oedipus theme even continued into the Symphony of Psalms (sic). What a shame to see this superb music being subjected to such nonsense.

Good info Vodka and encouraged by your reports of his early performances.

I always think the timpanist is an orchestra's most important player!
