From my sofa it sounded and looked fabulous, and yes Bernie looked in great nick.
The camera editor obviously read my #5, we didn't get to see the flugelhorn player at all did we, unless that was his shadowy outline in the gallery - beautifully done I thought.

Slightly more fluffs and non-unanimous chording than you might expect from the LSO usually, and you could quibble over deliberate tempi, but...
As a live experience, an emotional clobbering. Which is ultimately the point IMO.
The huge ovation Nick Betts got for the posthorn solo, if it were broadcast, would tell you the effect on the audience. Played on a flugel tonight I think, though various approaches seem to be tried.
Besides the obvious (BH) the star of the show, as often for me with this orchestra, was Phil Cobb. That echo of brass band sonority at the start of that final trumpet chorale brought tears to my eyes. In a good way. What a player.
Fabulous prom, flaws and all.

So far I have only watched a portion of the first movement on the TV (Mrs Flay could not cope with it ).
I was constantly distracted by the inevitably awful ADHD camera work: the constant movement, zooming in to the fingernails or BH's nostril hairs, then suddenly a view from the back gallery. For once why can't they show whole sections and for more than a few seconds? I think I'll listen to the iPlayer radio version.Pacta sunt servanda !!!

Just an aside, having listened only to the first movement. [ONLY? It's longer than 50% of all symphonies, surely?] How much did DSCH owe to Mahler and, in particular this symphony, when writing his 4th and 5th symphonies? There was one brassy moment in Mahler's first movement that DSCH copied almost note for note!

My impression was that the first movement was a bit ragged and disconnected, but after that it came together much more, and Sarah Connolly was faultless.
Can anyone tell me where all the time went? Mahler 3 is about 95 minutes, isn't it? But it was in the programme as 7:00-8:55 and finished two minutes early, and BH did not take long breaks between movements. Was he observing some repeats most conductors don't, or what?

I've got the Rattle Resurrection, which is indeed on two, but then I also have the Klemperer version, which fits on one!
PS: It's probably the one I've listened to least though, which might be what you're implying.
