Yes, I don't think many people unused to attending Proms (as many/most of these must have been) would think of either promming, or queuing for returns, would they? They may even have booked in person, rather than online in which case they'd just expect, as normal, to get a seat. (I mean they would have been less aware of the options)??

Personally, I've never seen the attraction of standing still for two hours plus in a hot and humid building.

Well I have attended a few concerts in Regent Hall but never had to stand for 2 hours there.

I've been lucky enough to have been to the Albert Hall on a few occasions and have always enjoyed the experience but I've always thought that, musically, I'd rather have heard the performers in a better acoustic. It just seems too big, IMHO.

Nottingham? Manchester? Neither are all that bad acoustically, though not that brilliant either. The Bolton ones are plural, so let's forget about them.

We have an Albert Hall in Stirling which is OK acoustically.

We also have the Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline which has much friendlier staff than its New York counterpart.

The Bridgewater Hall is frequently poor for solo singers to be heard with an orchestra. Writer Michael Kennedy told me more than once how at the Bridgewater Hall only a few singers did not have to struggle to be heard, for example, in Richard Straussand that wasn’t down to the weight of orchestration.

In that case! In 2014 I attended a concert at Albert Hall, Manchester. The hall is a 104 year old Grade II listed ex. Wesleyan Chapel more recently used as a nightclub. Sat upstairs on a bench seat the sonics were excellent with the Manchester Camerata performing Shchedrin's 'Carmen Suite' and other works.

Didn't see/hear it, so can't offer thoughts on the Prom's quality. Do wonder, though, why BBC1 couldn't have found space to televise at least parts of it, as a spin-off from one of its most-promoted franchises.
