I used to play in a ballet orchestra and loved this music despite the unrhythmic thumping from above the stage...

If you took away KD & co's inter-number chatter and a bit of audible clomping, from the audio broadcast alone this would sound very much like... a concert by the BBC Concert Orchestra, doing what they often do. Furthermore, it sounds very much like they're playing it all like they mean it, and with impressive versatility at switching styles in a blink. Apart from anything else, there's lots of purely "classical" stuff, being played straight. Apoplexy doesn't seem a reasonable response...

I meant the overture only - don't want to take away from the two other greats Laurents and Sondheim believe me. Jule Styne was born in London and moved to Chicago at eight - his family were from the Ukraine originally .

Yes it would be difficult when there would be no way of knowing if the intended performers would still be in Parliament and if so what role they would be playing...

Re other suggestions, David Pickard is quoted in RT " I did wonder if there was some mileage in a Crimewatch Prom or Bake Off Prom..."

I thought people weren't allowed to comment unless they listened to the whole concert?

Probably because it was the first time she had heard them?

                    I would enjoy a Scandi-noir prom, I think.

Richard Morrison reviews it in the Times (subscription). I might copy it downstairs e.g. temporarily on the Referendum thread as that doesn't get spidered. I think it sounds fair - not carping at the presence of the Prom, though pointing up the 'culture shock' effect. My impression of his impression: what you would expect by way of sequins and glitter. All the better for the professionals being unencumbered by amateurs and as has just been said - probably more than we wanted to know about some aspects. A slightly underwhelmed rating.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It sounds as if the presenter/dancer role was a bit of a problem - and that she was presenting Strictly Come Dancing, rather than a tailored Prom celebrating it (on this occasion, we don't need to go into this presenter's Radio 3 style - please - it's about the Prom).

Morrison's only relevant comment was, re the half empty arena: "Well, they missed a lot of dull musical padding and, frankly, rather too much information about the brief dancing career of Katie Derham, the presenter … " He was less impressed by the music/performance than some here but unstinting in his praise of the dancers.
