Thought I'd get a thread ready for reactions once details of the season are released today.

At a quick first glance, this summer's Proms season actually looks pretty good. Nice balance of standard repertoire and 'buried treasure' (your own opinions on the latter will differ, of course), with more of the latter compared to last season, IMHO. (And no complete DSCH 10 [just the scherzo in the Ten Pieces Prom], thank goodness, wonderful as the symphony is, but it was long past time to give it a rest after so many consecutive/near-consecutive years of hearing it.) It's good to see the outreach to venues beyond the RAH and Cadogan Hall, perhaps a nod to such Proms in the 1970s.

A more attractive programme for me than last year's unimaginative parade. There are quite a few concerts I wouldn't mind going to (including that Bruckner sequence Cali points out) - and the "weekend" of 29th July - 1st August is making me wonder about sorting out a trip to London for that lot. (But I bet Haitink Mahler #3 has sold out already!)
And ... I didn't notice last year, but are ticket prices notably higher this year?
PS: plus a booking fee of 2% of the total cost AND £2 PER TICKET!!!!!! - taking my initial cost of £46 up to £61.50.
I'll tune into Radio3.Numquam Satis!

My first reaction after a cursory glance is "wow". There's at least 15 concerts featuring large scale choral works or operas. Crikey - Alexander Nevsky followed by Boris Gudonov the next day and then the day after by a Haydn Mass and Faure's Requiem... Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and Choral Symphony featuring within the first fortnight... Rossini x 2, Bach's B Minor, The Makrupulos case ...
And heck the Dvorak Cello concerto coupled with Duke Bluebeard...
I'm in a state of disbelief bordering on euphoria.... This promises to be a vintage year surely?
Best Wishes,
Tevot
