I think I can imagine how that Mutter snub might feel. Having said that the primary reason performers such as Mutter will staying behind is for commerical reasons such as selling CDs. I interviewed her for an hour or so a few years ago and she was charming and far more open than I expected. I recall a recital by the late Carlo Curley the renowned organist and at various points during his recital he mentioned that he had CDs for sale five times or was it six. He even mentioned that he had a credit card swipe machine with him (the sort that gives a carbon copy) and so cash wasn't needed. Part of me admired his commercial savvyness and another part of me felt it was distasteful. That money didn't do him much good as he died just before reaching 60. There are no pockets in shrouds. I having said all that some of this money that the top earners earn may well be put to charitable causes.Last edited by Stanfordian; 04-02-16, 09:55.

Must give it a spin.
Jonathan Lloyd's, that is: BBCSO/Brabbins; NMC D046M.
I don't imagine it will feature in the 2016 Proms either.

Is the Edinburgh International Festival brochure awaited with such anticipation?
(I've already booked for one event at the EIF)

Two of these died and two were born in 1966. Being less than obvious they won't be featured:
Deems Taylor - The Looking Glass - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydaL2NRW3bo
Quincy Porter - Ukrainian Suite - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz6PlJiAEvc
Thomas Doss - Grand Canyon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nHLjlHQw2I
Vache Sharafyan - Light Drop Pearls - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdmKIPvxD9w
John Psathas of New Zealand, a clip of whom I posted last week, was also born duing 1966.
(nb Deems Taylor would suit as he did Fantasia and 1966 was also the year Walt Disney died)Last edited by Lat-Literal; 16-02-16, 23:25.

Proms dead for me
Get ready for another so called "innovation" in 2016. Cmon guys the BBC Proms which was the great time for 8 weeks of classical music from the past 10 centuries up to the 21st century has died! Think about what has been done to it, e.g Radio 1 Pop to Techno music on to huge junks of jazz. These genres have their own platforms and the only reason they are in the BBC Proms is "to appeal to a wider audience". Well... Controller and executives you have butchered a once national institution.Last edited by ucanseetheend; 17-02-16, 05:17."Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence"
