It would be interesting to know how many Proms commissions over the last 25 or 30 years have had their one solitary Proms premiere and then sunk without trace, never to be heard again. Some might say it's been TV licence fee money down the drain!

Some would say Radio 3 is TV licence fee money down the drain. [Give them a poke in the eye!]. If the Proms outing does nothing more than give a new work an audience to hear and respond to it, it's done its job.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

        It certainly is by me!
        Norma already announced.

Me too! (And I have my tickets for Norma.)

My thoughts for what they're worth:
            1. A Shakespeare opera from this summer's Glyndebourne season, which means either Beatrice & Benedict or Midsummer Night's Dream
            2. NYOGB doing Holst Planets & Strauss Also Sprach (see their web site)
            3. Cellist Guy Johnston playing the premiere of a new cello concerto by Charlotte Bray on August 14th (see his website)
            4. Rattle and the BPO doing two concerts - Mahler 7 and Boulez Éclat in one, and Julian Anderson (new work), Dvorak Slavonic Dances and Brahms 2 in the other (they seem to come every two years and these programmes are being played in Lucerne on Aug 30th/31st)
            5. JEG and the Orchestre Romantique & Revolutionaire, Monteverdi Singers doing the full Berlioz Romeo & Juliet (they are performing it elsewhere on 21 August)
            6. (A bit of a guess) LSO & Gergiev doing the full Prokofiev Romeo & Juliet
            7. Other potentials (also appearing at Lucerne): Barenboim and the W/E Divan either in a Mozart programme, or one with Argerich playing; Haitink and the CO of E doing Dvorak
            7. Lots more Shakespeare inspired concerts/pieces!

Based on past experience, when is it likely that the Proms programme will be announced? I am wondering in particular whether it is going to be before the Friends booking for the Edinburgh Festival (April 9). If I have to book for Edinburgh without knowing what is when at the Proms, I feel I am likely to get into the same situation as in past years, when it has seemed that all the best things at the Albert Hall happen the week I am in Edinburgh.

Looks a very attractive season if your predictions come true, savvy! Welcome to the Forum.

I will almost undoubtedly buy a copy, but I wonder if anyone can report on the app they launched last year? I'd still prefer a hard copy to something on my 'device'!
And will we still have our kind friend producing a better online listing than the BBC Proms site for us?

Presto's newsletter included a link to an In the Studio page for Opera Rara with this:
" the prospect of a new Semiramide, due to be recorded in August with a concert-performance to follow at the Royal Albert Hall on 4th September..."

Usually by now, they'd have the launch date on the Proms front page, considering we're only about 6 weeks or so away from the usual time of launch (mid to late April).

                          Maybe it's been cancelled ?

Whilst nothing would entirely surprise me, I rather suspect that something would have been heard about it before now had such cancellation taken place; why would it have done, might you suppose? BBC in disgrace over Savile-related arguments? General cutbacks that Glorious George has yet to reveal with a view to balancing the unbalanceable?

It'll cost a bit to cancel - the listings guide is already in proof. For one thing.
