I'm not encouraging wholescale revelations. Embargos are embargos and there's no point in stealing the thunder of the Proms team for the sake of a few days longer. But I can say Pulcie whispered to me that a certain Infamous Foot will be in action .

But if it's available in Daunt's then you can't be accused of breaking any press embargoes.

So, 'fess up, the First Night. I was right. The Armed Man.

You can't be 'accused' of anything in a legal sense. Embargoes are matters of trust. But I don't want the forum used as a platform for publishing all the details. That's all.

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

W.H. Smiths said "It's not out till Thursday" ...

                    But who needs paper clutter.

So: what time is it available online tomorrow?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I don't understand... How can there be an embargo when it's on sale in bookshops? I bought mine at the Foyles stand in the RFH this evening.

The highlight for me is "Semiramide" on Sept 4th, with Sir Mark Elder conducting the OAE, fine singers including Albina Shagimuratova, Daniela Barcellona, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo.

For the operatically inclined there is also the Royal Opera "Boris" on 16 July, and an interesting-looking "Makropulos" with Belohlavek and the BBCSO, starring Karita Mattila, on Aug 19th.

And also, the Glyndebourne "Barber" on 25 July.

The embargo is 'requested / imposed' by the BBC - but as ff said in #142, it's a matter of trust. Foyles, Daunts etc seem not to think it's worth abiding by, and have acted in breach of the embargo by selling it early. But there's in practice b*gger all the BBC can do about it.

There may be an "embargo" imposed by the BBC on outlets, but once the material is in the hands of the general public I don't see how the public can be expected to obey an embargo they have probably never heard about.

Certainly if I had not read this thread I would have been completely unaware of it, and would not have thought twice about passing on the information. And I still don't see any reason to regard myself as being bound by it. It is not as if the printed programmes say "Not for release before... ".
