    Rumours for 2016...

With the Proms 2016 launch about two-and-a-bit- months away do we have any rumours to share regarding artists, orchestras and programming?..

All I've found so far are:

Sat 23 July (evening at a guess) and Sun 24 July (morning at a guess) will see a return of the Ten Pieces Proms

I wonder if my friendly local independent bookshop will sell me a copy of the Proms Guide as soon as their stock comes in, as they did last year, and if so if I dare torment you all again!

Indeed there is, but the Proms concerts do tend to dominate the R3 schedule for quite a while over summer.
Is the Edinburgh International Festival brochure awaited with such anticipation?

I heard there's to be a George Lloyd cycle shared between Die Berliner Philharmoniker, the Vienna Phiharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the Russian National Orchestra. Apparently, many major conductors are fighting over who gets the lions share of baton waving duties.

Ticket prices are to be doubled and will be allocated on a bidding system whilst Sony and Polygram slug out the recording rights. It's being described as THE media event of the decade.

And is it as much of a letdown as the Proms Guide proves to be for many forumites?

Well, I was underwhelmed last year but, as I started to dig deeper, I found some fabulous and memorable stuff such as 'Figaro' under Ivan Fischer with the wonderful Miah Persson (whose autograph I got!), Yuja Wang and Leo Kovakos playing the Brahms violin sonatas and Angela Hewitt playing Spanish music. Anne-Aophie Mutter played too, making her EIF debut after a mere 37 years of playing in public! (In fact, I met all of the aforementioned and lovely they were too!)

The gobsmacked standing ovation after the Fourth lasts a full 40 mins.

Please no, a George LLoyd Symphonic cycle would be my worst nightmare , mind you at least I'd get to sleep quickly as Lloyd bores me rigid after a couple of minutes, but then more nightmares will start, help!!!

Anne-Sophie Mutter refused to sign my programme because I had not bought her CD. I am afraid that that spoilt what up to then had been a marvellous evening.
