Arnold Schönberg conducts Mahler Symphonie n2 (2nd Mvt )Cadillac Symphony, Los Angeles, 1934

Not to mention the Chamber Ensemble arrangements (such as that of Das Lied von de Erde) for the SPMP evenings.

AND the references to Mahler's Music in the Harmonielehre and the various articles collected in Style and Idea.
Thanks for putting me right on that, ferney - and for the clip, which is very touching indeed. I knew about the Schoenberg re-arrangements, which I regard as being far more true to their originals than people who have argued that Schoenberg would have been unsympathetic for the completion of the Tenth, ("look at what he did to Mann and Handel" nonsense etcetc); that clip surely said all.

      Joachim Raff???
any Anton Bruckner apart from the symphonies: 5 Masses, Requiem, some 40 motets, string quintet and ditto quartet?)

I would like to see the performance of a major Busoni work to commemorate the 150th year of his birth, though sadly I doubt that the powers that be would risk putting on a concert staging of his unfinished masterpiece Doktor Faust. Arlecchino (finished 1916) would be a good alternative.

It would also be good to see the WNO given a chance of a concert performance of the new commission of Iain Bell's setting of David Jones' In Parenthesis, a poem set around the events of the Battle of the Somme but full of allusion to myth and more ancient conflicts.

Another 150th anniversary is for Beatrix Potter. Dare I say it, but it could be a themed children's prom.

John Lanchbery' ballet music for starters, perhaps a staged version.

I think it could be quite decent, and up-stage Dr Who. Does anyone have any other suggestions for Potter-related music?

That's not quite what I had in mind. But thanks anyway.

Miriam Stockley could sing her enchanting Perfect Day. This is to be a light-hearted children's prom after all.

Go on gongers, have a look. You'll enjoy it.

Indeed, the complete organ music might make an interesting late night Prom.

Again, Cipriani Potter or, much more likely, Harry

Good idea - although Symphonies 00 - 3 haven't exactly over-crowded the Proms schedules over the years; wouldn't mind hearing some of those. (And, when the do the Masses, can they please get some soloists who don't completely ruin the experience with their wobbly skwarking like they did this year!)

The music of Wilfred Heaton, Eric Ball, Gilbert Vinter and a whole host of other composers who have written great music for either brass band or concert band!

What would you like to see at next year's Proms? Please stick to music-related suggestions, whether that be composers, works, soloists or orchestras you want to see performed/-ing next year.

Apart from the usual wishes for more neglected British music, I would like to see a Latin/South American thread in 2016, what with the Rio Olympics coinciding with the Proms, and the centenary of Alberto Ginastera, it's surely a fine time to showcase the fascinating, rhythm-driven tradition of their orchestral music.
At the risk of sounding like a Debbie Downer, this whole thread is moot, of course, since the Proms planning works according to a 3-year advance schedule (as noted in another thread). Thus most items have already been long set, including the mention elsewhere of Karita Mattila in the lead of the Janacek opera that Belohlavek is to lead next summer with the BBC SO. However, on a nicer note, it's perhaps not too imaginative to hope for return appearances by Daniel Barenboim and Bernard Haitink next summer, as 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of both of their Proms debuts. Agree with maestro267 that the Rio Olympics would provide a good occasion for Brazilian music at the RAH (although the news reports indicate that Rio is far from ready).
