I hope that she gives a shorter, less political speech than she did last time she conducted the Last Night. Her speech ruined for me what had until then been a good concert. If a conductor had given a right-wing political speech, would he/she have been invited back?

Andrew Davis was invited back year after year after taking over the year Mark Elder was outrageously sacked for some perfectly proper comments . His simpering speech in the face of the first Gulf War was unimpressive.

It's always an overlong concert with the prize for reaching the end nothing better than having to face the autumn and winter.

Glad to see the seasongs back ! Would much rather have had the First Shostakovich Concerto - much more fun than the Second with the lovely tune that goes nowhere in the slow movement .

I happened to catch Jonas Kaufmann on the sofa of the BBC1 breakfast programme today - he comes across as an absolute mensch, a great person without a hint of .... well, the various negative things that often beset 'star' musicians...

The prog isn't usually available on the iPlayer but I see they've included the clip specially on the programme page

He's notably tolerant of the airheads interviewing him...

The Puccini he will sing is clearly to publicise his new Puccini album... his Nessun Dorma (though it is a hackneyed number) will be interesting on the level of: what will he do with it?

I am sleepless at the prospect.
