    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Isn't that the same joke that you made last time?

The Tchaikovsky 'Nutcracker' Pas de deux a waltz? It's clearly four-in-a bar, as you'll hear when you click the link below. And what's all this about "ladies," when only one is involved, and as for the "French" connection, I fail to detect any of that either ...

Perhaps edashtav was thinking of the example of Cardew's Red Flag Prelude, which takes the waltz time of O Tannenbaum and transforms it in to a slow march.

In my opinion one of the best concerts of this seasons Proms. Francesca da Rimini, a piece I hadn't previously given too much attention to will be listened to again with fresh ears, a great opener. The Rach Piano 2 - controlled performance from Nikolai Lugansky and the orchestra - an enthralling experience despite from where I was sitting (side stalls, low numbers) the piano occasionally disappearing under the orchestra. [Message to the prom audience , thanks for not clapping between movements but can I remind you that clearing your throat en masse between movements is not obligatory and that it bled into the start of the 3rd movement distracting my attention for a short while. And to the man with the very loud sneeze at the inappropriate moment can I suggest using a handkerchief to stifle it's sound.]
Scheherazade is not, certainly was not dull. Fantastic overall playing and some great solo performances and some of the greatest melodies in classical music.
The pieces complemented each other well (written mid 1870's to 1900/01) and the orchestra/conductor/soloist thoroughly deserved the applause they got.

I do seem to have had a Pas de Deux problème concerning 2, or 3, or even 4 in a bar. And the bar was my excuse- it held an empty bottle of French wine.
