Prom 30: John Wilson Orchestra - Frank Sinatra (7.08.15)

    22:15
    Royal Albert Hall

Live from the Royal Albert Hall, London

    Seth MacFarlane (vocalist)
    Jamie Parker (vocalist)
    John Wilson Orchestra
    John Wilson conductor

'The Voice' ... 'Ol' Blue Eyes' ... 'The Sultan of Swoon': the mythology surrounding Frank Sinatra is overwhelming. A gifted entertainer, screen actor and ubiquitous personality, his real legacy as a pioneer of popular song can sometimes get lost in the clamour. This Late Night Prom celebrates the centenary of this musical legend in a concert that brings together some of the great voices of our own time, led by the multitalented Seth MacFarlane and vocalist Jamie Parker. Join John Wilson and his orchestra for an after-hours sequence of big tunes and even bigger performances.

Interesting how this is billed here as Frank Sinatra - John Wilson Orchestra, but the television listing is Friday Night at the Proms: Seth Macfarlane Sings Sinatra. I personally had never heard of Seth Macfarlane before this listing, but had heard of the John Wilson Orchestra.

Am I ignorant or perhaps just in the wrong demographic?

In any event, I am looking forward to this (even if it is the Radio 2 prom!).

Why aren't we becoming hysterical about this Prom like we did with Ibiza Prom?

I suppose that’s because the audience of this prom will be listening to the music rather than dancing to it (i.e. it’s a proper concert ).

R3 website tells us ‘John Wilson Orchestra plays Frank Sinatra’. I didn’t realise Sinatra was a composer.

It's obviously NOT "proper" if one moves to it

Note the use of the royal "we".

Most of the hysteria came from employees of the BBC.

Not the royal "we" - more the patronising "we", as in How are we today?

Indeed dover, this was discussed here. We're getting a tribute act. Will Seth Whassisname be wearing a trilby?
