AS I pointed out in a post which all but Serial_Apologist (thank you!) ignored the 'dismissal' of this Prom is not "on the grounds that it has a strongly repetitive rhythmic element" ('Bolero?). There are other reasons for 'dismissing ' it. The repetitiveness and strong beat throughout seemingly every piece are merely reasons why some people find it musically limited and not very (personally) rewarding (many people feel that about Bolero). Its popular attraction seems to be if you want to dance to it. And to then say that the Proms are 'not about dance' is not the same as saying the Proms should never present music which is written in a variety of dance forms.

One can genuinely see the next Big Idea as being the Strictly Come Dancing Prom - except that it doesn't have the appeal of the popular youth subcultures.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Some people are simply scared of change. Beethoven would've loved the Ibiza Prom. As would Mozart, Wagner, Bach, Schoenberg.....................

That's right - try them out on classical music and they'd be running a mile. Not something they're used to.

There's probably a technical term for this sort of completely unprovable, unknowable assertion, Beef, and I've no doubt that you'll come up with a smartass reply to this post. But there's little doubt that with his particular form of deafness Beethoven would have found the thump thump of dance music extremely distressing.

What was it you were saying about completely unprovable, unknowable assertions, Dick?

And smartarse please, not smartass - Ibiza music and the Ibiza scene are British, not American.

The balance of probability is with me, Beef - you hadn't really thought that one through. And smartarse, by all means. You really have been doing your reputation for reasoned, considered argument no favours at all on this thread

Ibiza is the Spanish town where British trash go to binge drink.

I think you only have to read the Vienna Phil New Year concert threads to realise that that's not true.
