Well, I just tried listening. Torture. Had to give up after a few minutes. I can't stand the beat and I can't stand the repetition.

        Hey, you can't say that.

        It's the truth!

It's not for everyone, I suppose.

As I said upthread I think that the best of this stuff is very skilfully crafted and wonderful to listen to.
Yes, I agree. It is an art to make it so instantly appealing, and to be so, I think it has to be exactly right. If it is dressed up for something else, it loses the appeal. Apart from my main reason, that’s whyI think this music should be kept out of the Proms, as I don’t think the Proms can offer the ‘raw state’ for it to play in.

              Same here...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

IMO we didn't hear the very best but it was still worth a listen.
Not sure it belongs at the Proms though
Exactly my thoughts, too. I watched on the Red Button, as sonically it was too much of a mess for satisfying radio; quite enjoyed the Elvis-like stage performance of John Newman and seeing a bit of the occasion. Too many dull tracks were played (Porcelain, Belfast) for a dance party.

                    Nor is Vivaldi

                    (sorry, this is completely irrelevant)

                        What's music for?

It's DANCEmusic (the clue is in the name ) it's meant to be repetitive
so you can DANCE to it

The pieces were too short and it wasn't repetitive enough IMV

Perfect for the concert hall, then...

                              Just think about that.

And there wasn't much dancing - just jumping up and down to the thuds.
