But if SK is good at her job - and we agree that she is - and if she is knowledgeable - which we agree she is - why shouldnt she be outrageous, which only means, as far as I can see, that she should provoke the status quo? She has the knowledge, the right and the opportunity, she would be failing in her purpose if she didnt stir up the stagnant waters.

(Being outrageous is less supportable, as it means she has gone too far.)

Radio3 presenters are not personality DJs. They should not lightly use their position to express their personal opinions that is outside their jobs as presenters which is to present music. This is where current R3 has gone so terribly wrong; it has turned many programmes into personality chat shows. I don’t know about other stations and TV channels but Radio3 presenter is a public job that comes with responsibilities.
Sara M-P’s article about the women composers’ day was carefully written to stay within the subject. She could have said something controversial or anti-status quo about equal opportunity etc., but she obviously had better sense of responsibility. Catherine Bott could have said all sorts of things against BBC but she didn’t. This SK’s article must be just about the sloppiest, and most poorly written / argues article that has ever appeared. It can’t possibly be an article written with serious commitment. I can only think that SK used her position for a bit of publicity, for herself or for the Proms, I don’t know but the whole thing is pathetic.

You say "This is where current R3 has gone so terribly wrong; it has turned many programmes into personality chat shows." You are so right and this is the same across the BBC in general. Take Wimbledon tennis coverage in which the producers are unable to concentrate on the tennis alone and seem obsessed with looking into the Royal Box or ‘Celeb’ Box as it is now in reality.Last edited by Stanfordian; 13-07-15, 15:06.

They could at least label them (including, where appropriate, 'His niece (He says)')
*Or should it be djok'd off?

As has been said above, it's impossible to avoid the conclusion that SK's sights are set on a bigger job in the wider BBC, where of course insulting the audience's intelligence will be an even more 'core value'.........Why oh why oh why must people like her pursue simple answers to complex questions....?
