What a fantastic gig!!!
The Boulez was incredible! The Planets was amazing - what a conductor (and female too ).
My mate who came with me, a Jamaican who loves funk and a bit of jazz and little else, thought the Boulez was out of this world! There's hope for 20th C music! We both loved the Holst too!
I was delighted and surprised to see a really high number of young people (early 20s and below) at this gig. A big difference from say, ten years ago.
The baby crying had little or no effect on the audience - it may have appeared worse to those watching (was it televised?) or listening on the radio.

A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Was there last night, it's the second time this season I'm seen a crying child having to be whisked out quickly by the parents (happened in Prom 1). Also had a American family with young children sitting behind us who thought they were at the movies, munching at popcorn, rustling sweet bags, constantly shuffling around and talking. Think the RAH should consider raising the lower age limit to at least 8 years old for the Proms unless it's a specific concert for children. I don't blame the children who are either tired or don't want to sit still for an hour or so (or be at the concert!), but the RAH needs to ensure people buying children's tickets are reminded the environment for a classical concert is much quieter than pop concerts, cinemas etc. Hoping for a quieter night tonight.

Boulez was great - but don't think it helped watching the orchestra on TV. Best appreciated staring at a blank wall with headphones, or with eyes closed.
I think a lot of Jazzniks appreciate Boulez - a pity this appreciation is not reciprocated by Boulez - his opinion of Jazz is unprintable.
