    Twitter and the Proms

I'm back looking at this forum after a couple of years, being an annual visitor to the Proms.
I recently joined Twitter and had a go at tweeting a couple of reactions to concerts.
Surprisingly, there seems little Twitter activity besides the organisers or performers.
Is there something I'm missing? is #bbcproms not where the discussion is, but here?

Hello, probe. I'm at a loss to answer that. I don't think there's a lot of tweeting around here. But there is, erm, discussion …
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Not much discussion where there are over 140 characters per post though.....

It's definitely down on previous years. The official Proms Twitter feels more robotic this year, just tweeting highlights of past concerts. We don't even get the "5 Minute Calls" pre-concert anymore. Also, the feed itself is incredibly clogged up with many different layers, either people tweeting about what's on TV or the Proms that shouldn't even be Proms (Ibiza etc.).

There's lively debate on twitter sphere regarding the Edinburgh Festival. In fact, I've had a reply to a tweet I sent to Angela Hewitt about how much I'd enjoyed her recital this morning!

That's what I'm wondering about, pastoralguy. I went to twitter and typed in #edinfest and find a couple of tweets a day, mainly announcements of what's on. Nothing resembling a debate. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place; which is the same question I had about the Proms. And I need 270 characters up to this point, so unless I do that trick of taking a picture of the text and using it as the accompanying image I don't see any possibility of a debate on Twitter. Maybe I've misunderstood the medium and its slogan "join the conversation"; should be "join the Small Ads"

That may be the case. I don't think I've heard of a joined up 'conversation' taking place. One person says something and a variable number of people respond individually with short comments. I thought they were used by companies for short informative news/marketing announcements.

There's usually a bit from @bbcproms and @royalalberthall, and fo course updates on the charity total from @prommerscharity. You may also find some things on #Promnn (where nn is the Prom number)

Conversations on various topics do happen, though the character limit can make it a little trying, especially when a number of people are involved.
