Maybe they'll do a version with a Hobbit in the bottom right hand corner doing sign language throughout the performance. (I shouldn't give them ideas.)
They already do this, Alpie. They call him "the Conductor"!

I nearly added "or her", but that disturbed the rhythm; then nearly changed "him" to "it", but that looked as if I was sneering at Alpie; so agonized for a couple of seconds before letting it stand.
It ain't easy being a trendy guilt-ridden pinko leftie liberal type, y'know!

oh I know, I gave up the difficult parts of that years ago !! ( Keeping the guilt is a doddle though).
has nobody come up with a gender neutral version him/his/her?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Not really, though in legal terms the masculine form includes the feminine.
I know people often use the plurals "they" and "their" as singular, but that doesn't work either. When was the last time you heard anyone say "they is. . ."?

I think you can watch it uninterrupted on iplayer. The Beeb appears to be doing with the proms what it did with Glastonbury and make multiple versions of some nights available. Not clear to me which is which though.
I wonder if this is part of a long term strategy to move classical music off the TV altogether and only make it available on line via the iplayer.
When Simon Rattle conducted the complete Sibelius symphonies at the Barbican earlier this year, only one of the concerts was shown on BBC4. However, all of the symphonies could be seen individually on the Iplayer. Now the BBC have made the Sunday night relays unwatchable by turning them into illustrated lectures by Mark Elder, with the only way to watch the individual performances uninterrupted being on line.
No doubt the argument at the end of the season will be that the classical proms on BBC4 attracted a lower audience than ever before, so they will be justified in removing them from next year's schedules, leaving only the John Wilson proms to be shown on TV. The rest will be banished to the Iplayer, if shown at all.
Having said that, if classical proms are in future only available via the iplayer, I hope that the BBC will at least make it possible to see whole concerts in that way. At the moment, it is only possible to see the individual pieces; not the whole concert.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

For those (many!) who don't look at the FoR3 Facebook page: we submitted a Freedom of Information request as to whether the BBC "Classical Music Board, chaired by the Controller of Radio 3" still existed, since its function was to coordinate the broadcasts of classical music across radio and television. It was established c. 2010, according to the BBC Trust.
Official reply: 'this is not something we are obliged to tell you, and we're not going to.'
Common sense would tell anyone that that means the Board has been discontinued - as we suspected since the new Director of Music's function is to 'coordinate the broadcasts of music across radio and television'. The Director of Music, late Head of Popular Music is controller of Radio 2 and 6 Music. Hence it appears 'classical music' is unlikely to loom large in his plans … It would be good to know which Proms he attends - plenty for him to enjoy!
