I'm quite sure that we all know that! But that's a creditable perfomance tally indeed and I'm delighted for you!

18 posts have been moved to a new Platform 3 thread. Please can we keep this for general Proms discussion

Some interesting comments from Michael White in the Telegraph.

I know it's the usual journalistic hyperbole, but I rather enjoyed this:

"So let me add a relative endorsement of the quiet nature of the launch this year. There have been launches in the past so chokingly self-celebrating and so driven by a corporate line about the Proms becoming annually bigger, better, glossier, more technologically enhanced and globally encompassing, that you’d have thought there was some not-so-hidden agenda for world domination fermenting in the bowels of Broadcasting House. Or that Mr Putin had an unexpected rival in his plans for Ukraine.

I am just flicking through the Southbank Centre listing for 2015/16. I know this isn't a direct comparison, but, for example if one takes a slightly random group of composers that get routinely "neglected" at the Proms, Arnold, Bliss, Rubbra, Bax, Simpson, ( just for example), they don't have a single work being performed in the SBC season.
American C20 composers fare equally badly, Henry Cowell getting nothing performed in this anniversary.

            Just an observation.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Magnard's getting nothing for his 150th either - but then he's never had a single work performed in the proms since the series began...

Before I begin, I'm assuming this is the main discussion thread for the Proms until we get to the season itself.

Over the years I've been following the Proms (this is my 8th), I think I've had to sit out Prom 2 (first Saturday) more than listen. They tend to programme either non-classical (film music, musicals, light music) or very basic classical (like this year's Ten Pieces concert) for that night. With all the excitement leading up to the First Night, it's a bit of a downer that the season comes to a stop right after that initial burst. It'd be nice to have a week of proper concerts to get the ball rolling, then they can start with the whole kids/non-classical fare (if they insist on having it, which, after so many years of it, we can now assume they do).

I agree. It's rather irritating for those, like me, who want to make a weekend of it. Instead, I'll be making my way to Newbury for the races on the Saturday and resume back at the Proms on Sunday for the CBSO/Nelsons. Hoping for some decent weather like we had last year.

Any sign of the tickets yet? Nothing at my end yet. Perhaps I will call the box office if nothing appears by the end of t'week...

I had my tickets two weeks ago.

I had completely forgotten about my Proms tickets until I read this - and the first concert is getting close. However, lo and behold (as people used to say), they arrived in the First Post this morning.

That's encouraging. After Petrushka's posting, I rang the RAH box office and they claimed that the tickets had been delayed waiting for flyers to be included. Funnily enough, that's normally the first thing I chuck in the bin when the envelope does turn up. They said to wait until the end of June and if they still haven't arrived, they would print replacements...

Apart from the tickets, my envelope contains three leaflets: a Proms calendar, information on catering and an advert for the Proms tour. Nothing worth delaying a mailing for.

I'm still waiting for my Season Pass, but it's always the usual panic every year!

All except the tickets went straight into the bin.

                                1. Why would I need a Proms calendar? I have the Proms Guide and know what's on otherwise I couldn't have booked.

                                2. The RAH catering is ludicrously overpriced. I don't intend using it again. None of it.

                                3. Proms tour? I've been going since 1978 and there aren't many corners of the RAH that haven't had my presence.
