    Bloody dragon grumble grumble
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think it is a vast improvement on Roger Wright . No Lark Ascending but the Concerto Accademico. Considering how well received Andsnes Beethoven was received on here another highlight and we get a Mozart symphony at last !

        Hmm

"Planning stretches three years ahead. The 2014 season is complete, 2015 scarcely less so." This was written in July 2013.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Surely this summer's Proms are RW's parting gift/shot. Planning such a season takes a little longer than the time since his giving up the role of Proms chief.

[Oops, just seen Frenchie's similar comment.]

20? Count yourself lucky. My local doesn't even have a juke box.

I'm reminded of a jolly wheeze in our student cafeteria years ago. Every now and then, just before leaving the building, someone might find the most insufferable juke box track and select it to be played multiple times for the dubious pleasure of those still present.

Siouxsie and the Banshees B sides, ( ideally with two songs) were great for this.

Back OT, there is a little more that I am REALLY looking forward to than usual, several concerts that I intend to see come what may, and some ( hopefully) great American orchestras.

But also a bit more than usual to avoid at all costs.

There are disappointing aspects to the programming that are a feature of every season, but its a long old festival, and if you can get past the BBC marketing speak and silliness, much to enjoy, one would hope.

And, more importantly, the season does still perform an important role in taking this music and quality of performance to a wider audience than the regular London concert hall crowd. Where else is core classical rep so much fun. ...and so cheap...if you don't mind standing, bad acoustics, queuing, expensive coffee.....
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

This is indeed true and a brilliant point.

                      But I just wish that ... well ... y'know -

well, that I had more positive things to anticipate than saving rail fares and hotel bills. I have a little money - I was willing to part with some of it, if only ...

When you've decided, tell us what you're doing instead.

What's the view here on the Bristol Proms, in their third year at Bristol Old Vic?

… that we don't have an official Proms in the Park in Bristol .

It was in Caerphilly for several years - about an hour's drive.

I am even more underwhelmed by that programme than by the London one. Nothing to entice me to walk down the hill to attend.

Interesting. Is that because of the music, the performers, the atmosphere?
