I'd heard that it was Masterchef d'œuvre (or was it Strictly Come Conducting?).

Either way, though, the prospect of Sir Simon tending sweets throughought the performance must have something going for it, I suppose...

Good question, but mightn't it be more to the point to find out whether the hall will be built in Southend or Romford?

Mortar come soon, no doubt; in the meantime, I suspect that, however diligently one might trowel through the prospectus when it's published, the chances of finding as much as a coping stone's worth of Lloyd being rendered there will be vanishingly small (we are talking the BBC Proms here, after all)......

Btw, the applications for the new director closed on 23 Feb - did anyone here apply?
More to the point - did you?

I fear that you may have misheard; it was Robert Saxton and Bartók, not Robert Simpson and Bantock. I did overhear someone censoriously referring to the question of whether to ban Toch from the Proms permanently, but when it was realised that his work's hardly ever had a look in there in the first place, the subject was discreetly dropped...

            !!!

Ant and Dec? Now, let me see, is that Anthony Payne (see reference below) and Abel Decaux, by chance?

And would the enterprising and determined Trace put on her foundation before helping to put in the foundation?

As to Pab's question, though, I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be built by Kayleigh of Rayleigh, but I'm no expert in such matters. What I am fairly sure of, however, is that the inaugural programme will include Le Bœuf sur le Toit and I dareasy the first night audience will cheer it to the rafters, so let's hope that they don't collapse under said bovine weight.

All that said, however, we really should remember that we live in times of austerity and all the vitally necessary cuts that inevitably accompany Her Majesty's government's efforts to extricate our nation therefrom and, accordingly, I see no reason why the new Rattle Hall could not be constructed as part of Boris Airport, especially as this would substantially reduce the cost of getting international orchestras to get to it.

Anyway, as William Rushton (or was it Blake Morrison? - I can't remember now) famously and premonitiously wrote:

And did those brickies in our time
            Walk upon Essix' estuary green?
And was the foreman and his team
            On Thames-side's putrid mud-flats seen?

            And did the Cameron Divine
Shine forth upon our great landfills?
And was the Rattle Hall builded here
            Despite our economic ills?

Bring me my bow of golden mount:
Bring me Time's Arrow as desired:
Bring me the Proms director old!
            Bring his P45; he’s fired!

I will not cease from mental plight,
Nor shall my horn sleep in my hand
Till we have built the Rattle Hall
            For London’s great symphonic band!

Sums it all up neatly, I'd say...

Isn't it going to be an all-female season - composers, performers, presenters & audience? I understand that the RAH is going to be re-named the RKH.

Awwwww, no rumours yet then? I prefer the gossip about the possible season contents rather than the actual prospectus... :D

bluestateprommer is the man. We may hear from him soon, if he's had any luck.

(Or maybe there won't be any Proms this year, as there's still no Chief .. :smiley )
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Here's one, although probably of little interest to the learned contributors on this forum:

Dick and Dom will appear at the BBC Proms 2015.

The pair will be joined by Blue Peter's Barney Harwood at the Royal Albert Hall for two special concerts on July 18 and 19.

Ten pieces of classical music, including Beethoven's 'Symphony No. 5' and John Adams's 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine', will be accompanied by dance, digital art and animations by children.

Instant reminders of 1980 and the late start to the season after the proposal to cut the number of orchestras throughout the UK. We live in dangerous times!

So you didn't apply, then?! (I mean, had you done so, there would be one by now, surely?)...

What? Not all simultaneously, surely? Although that might be the best way to do such a thing, not least in that it would be over sooner...

At some point before all the well-documented turmoil, hadn't the Minnesota Orch/Vanska been pretty much announced to do a Sibelius symphony cycle at this year's Proms? I vaguely remember reading somewhere (could of course have been vacuous internet speculation - not that there's any of that going on here or anything) that this could be back on as the dispute was resolved just in time... If not, maybe the BBCPO/Storgards will cover some of them given the recent recorded cycle etc?

Other than that all I've got is (more) vacuous speculation. Nelsons' contract with the CBSO expires at the "end of summer 2015", i.e. it's reasonable to assume a final Proms appearance. His final concerts in Brum are Parsifal (unlikely to be repeated given the Wagner glut of a few years ago) and Mahler 3, which is obvious Proms fare. If I were a betting man I might have a small punt on the latter...

The actual details will be released (no doubt to a soundtrack of all the usual bickering) soon enough for me anyway.

No, I went for Radio 3 but some other bloke got it .

Btw, I'm all for the Ten Pieces project, in schools and at the Proms - very ambitious, yet still a small step …
