    NB - it's just an impression, not based on any actual knowledge beyond looking at the array of mics, mostly suspended in a fixed configuration from wire harnesses over the stage.

    It actually seems a pretty pragmatic approach to me, which has produced good results for many concerts this year - certainly better than a few seasons ago.

    There's almost certainly less budget and people for the (sub-contracted IIRC) broadcasts than years ago.

      After listening to the entire broadcast, I was really impressed. The first movement did seem to ramble a bit, but Gilbert isn't the only Conductor to ever lose his way in that forest. I think the remaining movements were as we'll done as I have ever heard them, and I really liked some the tempos for the middle movements.
