    Our time will come...

Once those Euromillions roll in all will change!

I can see it now, a new set of the George Lloyd symphonies played by the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon...

Got to be up there in the top three, with RVW 9 and Elgar 2.

      Re the Prom,

      Didn't like the Birtwistle.

The Walton seemed a bit scrappy, the soloist even sounded a bit out of tune at times to me.

I thought the RVW was brilliant, for me this performance provided what I need from the 4th.
If it makes me feel safe,it's worked.
It's as if VW is fighting my battles against the demons for me.
Superb closing bars, not only was he shaking a fist and slamming he door on them, also telling them to #### off.

So that's why he didn't renew his contract!

Who knows, so soon in our shallow apprehension of history and value, whether it's a masterpiece or not?

Are Maconchy's String Quartets Mistresspieces then?

You should explain, explain it to Sir Birtwistle, f.

He blows, blows hot and cold, the poor old fool.

Haven't they learned how to clap between movements yet then?

                        Never, dear f!

But HB says that Exody "doesn't really work". You might talk him into it, if you're sure.

If you haven't listened to the post-Prom pre-Prom talk, there's some very nice live music in it between the short chats. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04gkb0s

I'm not sure if they were still students at the RAM or semi-professional. He was very sweet with them all. First, three from a set of 9 short songs with cello accompaniment. 5 Distances was played with the horn at the centre-front of the stage and the others at one corner each of the hall. Sir Birtwistle said he'd have refused if they'd asked him but they'd already done it that way and it pleased him. The separation of the musicians gave the lines a very emphatic clarity.

Blotto - you're incurable. I'm still not sure if you're (appallingly) genuine or a saboteur. But cf. Vaughn Williams on his 4th: "I don't know whether I like it, but it's what I meant." Can you see - just glimpse even - a link to Birtwistle in that comment?

Unless you can find a way of listening that leaves YOU out of the picture, you're doomed to misunderstanding and misjudgement.
Whether YOU are an old fool or not... I'll leave to the Gods. But I wouldn't bet the farm on an acquittal...

3/4 - very good. But the correct answer is "5 then 3 then 6 then 4 then 9 then 7"
