Is it just me or does the soloist sound as if he is desperate to get this performance over and done with?

I thought the orchestra and conductor did well to follow such an idiosyncratic soloist.

According to Norman Lebrecht (admittedly never the most reliable source), Han Na Chang has just resigned as the Music Director of the Qatar Philharmonic!

"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

It seems all the presenters sing the praises of everything played at the Proms.

                    'Don't bother with yesterday's Beethoven 5 on I player,it's bobbins'.

HNC does have a reputation as being quite demanding I understand . Whether that is well deserved I do not know .

Hope she's not another one of those players who stops playing to be a second rate conductor.
Ooooh...a bit of a hasty judgement there? IMV she's technically outstanding. She's young, and with maturity who knows what will develop. Hope she finds another post very soon.

Not a judgement just a sigh. She is such a great 'cellist that it would be a crime if she let her playing diminish for the sake of being a second string conductor. Having said that, I was impressed by that concert. (Except the soloist!)

I'd like to be watching but Beethoven 9 beckons...

Actually, turned off last movt. of the ninth. Watching Tchaikovsky five.

In some ways , I can't blame her for trying her hand at conducting. The repertoire( that is acceptable to concert hall managers) is so narrow that it must drive a thoughtful cellist mad.
I know there is chamber music, but the opportunity to be involved with orchestral repertoire after years of learning and performing a small number of works must be very strong .

Low start up costs too.Flog the top of the range cello for a million, and buy a nice baton for £20, and you're laughing.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

The Tchaikovsky 5 sounded great on the telly.

Han Na Chang is sexy too I reckon (is it ok to say that ?).

Hmmm.... it's probably NOT 'ok to say that' - at least in her country, if not here.
