    So, as Haydn’s symphonies don’t do what Shostakovich’s do, they don’t count as symphonies?

    If you like more recent works better than some old stuff, that’s fine, but that is just your taste and not something on which to build a grand theory.

      Eh, what? I don't build grand theories DS, I just listen as closely and instinctively as I can, and try to describe my experiences as honestly as I can. It's all I ever do really... get that Murail CD Dover-Soul-Mate, it might surprise you (and you might surprise yourself )
