Apparently the entire dome over the auditorium of the Palermo Opera House opens in the summer.

I think there may be some opening in the roof. The most noticeable part of the system is the cool air blown out from around the edges of the Arena, though this struggles to penetrate to the centre (particularly now there is no fountain to break up the mass of prommers). It's usually noticeably cooler sitting on the floor of the Arena compared to standing, as the air is blown across at floor level up to a couple of feet (you can see the perforated sections of the Arena surround that allow the air in)

I found it comfortable throughout, in the stalls seats anyway;
I was sweating like a stuck pig in Choir East for most of it and my companion's impressive décolletage was glistening delightfully under the lights. I hope it didn't cause too much of a distraction for the TV crew.

Someone commented that the presentation was a bit like Strictly Come Dancing - no idea what he meant (I can't watch it until it's over!).It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
