Of course, the original Match of the Day theme should be played. Composed by Leslie Statham (aka Arnold Steck), one time Director of Music to the Band of the Welsh Guards and called Drum Majorette it's a thumping good march. Incidentally, his march Sporting Occasion is used for Wimbledon.

Thanks, ER. It's rather fun, but I can't recall it at all.

This Prom is a right dog's breakfast I've had to turn it off. Gabby Logan et al and music doesnt work for me.

Ditto - all chat and very little music.
I'd be interested to know the attendance percentage of this concert.

There seems to be a very stilted conversation between Logan and a sports producer that is toe curlingly embarrassing.

The subject and the timing makes it clearly one of the Proms intended to attract new audiences who recognise what IS familiar to them already as much as the new experience.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Many is the time I (and the first Mrs Pabs) bedded down in Crouch End after an evening at The Queen's, with entertainment from Rupert Haymanski (York Bowen & Shura Cherkassky lived nearby). And a curry at the … ? … what on earth …? I was always too far gone!...
