I've just read that there is not a note of Haydn being played at this year's BBC Proms. It's hard to believe that this master composer is not represented. Personally I'd be happy if a Haydn work was programmed at every concert I heard.
No Haydn!

Aug 16 - Benedict Mason - Meld
As in previous years there are however a number of Cadogan Hall afternoon chamber proms I have down as must attends:
July 28 - All CPE Bach
Aug 9 - CPE Bach, Honegger, Birtwistle, Sibelius
Aug 30 - PM Davies portrait
Sept 6 - Birtwistle portrait
I wonder why these chamber proms are not included in the Radio Times Proms pullout....

There were a lot of works in ........ 2009 (wonder why?). Since then I can only see one string quartet (2010) and one symphony 2012. I suppose they haven't yet recovered from the riches of the bicentenary of his death. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

His neglect at the Proms is scandalous . Surely some HIPP orchestra could have been invited along to play a symphony or two .

By coincidence I had ordered Colin Davis recordings ofthe London Symphonies with the Concertgebouw and have been playing them quite a bit these last two days. They are just marvelous example of what a Conductor with a sense of style and a flair for orchestral colorand balances can produce with a non HIPP Orchestra.
Barbs, maybe the London Symphonies are why the left Haydn off the Proms schedule this year. Perhaps someone reasons that your Capital has done a lot in the past to promote his music
