For your penance, you shall stand all the way through Parsifal without anything to lean against. And I absolve you in the name of the Father ..

As a good Scots Presbyterian I know that I'm not really supposed to laugh or smile but I got a great deal of amused enjoyment from Edashtav's pretty shrewd assessment of JM's music, which, I hasten to add, I also rather like but to which I'm not sure that I should admit for fear of being driven from the parish (in my case about 6 miles from where JM grew up).

            Yes.

                Yes, it is.

And on the strength of that wonderful performance of The Blue Danube, (AKA The Most Famous Waltz in The World), I would like to propose Donald Runnicles for the New Year's Day gig in Vienna. He clearly has an affinity with the genre. I'm not sure I've heard the piece done better for many a year.

And can I just thank the BBC for sticking those pictures of Beethoven up behind the orchestra? Without them I woudn't have had a clue what I was listening to.

Very good playing indeed from the BBCSSO. Super concert.

Playing was OK - thought the interpretation of Beethoven 5 was half baked and sounded as if too much rehearsal time had been spent on the Macmillan.

As a true Scot I'm sure that Mr Runnicle's Hogmanay celebrations will preclude any likelihood of Mr Pee's wishes coming true
