What a pity. Siegfried with a dreadful singer in the title role is as bad as it gets, no matter what other merits the performance offers. One unbelievable statistic - Terje Stensvold singing the Wanderer is 70 years old! His voice is superb. One could never know from just listening. Ryan singing(or rather mangling) Siegfried is about to return to Bayreuth to sing both Siegfried roles in the new Ring. I, for one, am very grateful that he has no time to sing our Götterdämmerung on Sunday.
I pity Nina Stemme in the up-coming last act.

Like the pace and attack in the first two Acts. DB building real drama and the singers are not holding back. Good stuff.

As I said in the Walkure thread the orchestra (can't remember which it is just now ) is taking a starring role. I don't know if it's the engineer's balance but in the broadcast lots of detail is coming through, without the singers being drowned. It would be interesting to know if those in the Hall hear the same.

Interesting to hear SMP in the interval talk claiming she didn't know Wagner's Ring. Was she acting the part of the helpless female - something that no longer wins respect from anyone. If not, why one earth has she been employed as a Radio 3 presenter. It's rather like the Archbishop of Canterbury saying he hasn't read the Acts of the Apostles.
