    Prom 7 - 16.07.13: Gospel Prom

    10.15pm – c. 11.30pm
    Royal Albert Hall

    Pastor David Daniel host
    London Adventist Chorale
    London Community Gospel Choir
    Muyiwa & Riversongz
    People's Christian Fellowship Choir

The Prom explores the emotive and richly varied world of gospel music, with leading vocal ensembles and community choirs combining to create a thrilling massed wall of sound. Favourites such as 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' and 'O Happy Day' are heard alongside popular hymns, calypso choruses, spirituals, and new songs inspired by funk and rock.

Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid, but I dare say that's my loss.

Absolutely not my cup of tea either, and I'm not apologising for that.

The Radio 3 schedule suggests that it might not last quite as long as that.

Yes but should it be part of the Proms is what you are probably asking?

Are Wagner Operas music for the concert hall?
Is the Dr Who stuff music for the concert hall?

I thought it was a form of worship and found its natural home in churches.

I think the evolution of the genre has taken it beyond churches.

It appears that many on this board were not "ready to make church" and did not bring with them an "Amen!".

I'm listening to this on the iPlayer and my stony atheist heart is being suitably warmed. I'll be interested in reading later what the notes for the programme say.

Clemency's intro did make her sound like Ping from Ed Reardon though.
