    Proms 2 & 3 - 13-14.07.13: Doctor Who Proms

    Saturday 13 July
    7.30pm – c. 9.45pm
    Royal Albert Hall

    Murray Gold
Music from the Doctor Who series
and other music from the series, including the Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 2, Debussy’s ‘La fille aux cheveux de lin’ and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor

    London Philharmonic Choir
    BBC National Orchestra of Wales
    Ben Foster conductor

    Repeated Sunday 14 July
    10.30am – c. 12.45pm
    Royal Albert Hall

Doctor Who returns to the Proms to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular BBC series. As well as showcasing Murray Gold's music from the past eight years, the concert also journeys back to the early days of Doctor Who and the groundbreaking work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Featuring special guests from the series, big screens and a host of monsters ready to invade the Royal Albert Hall, this is not the year to be exterminated!

Once again, poor Ron Grainer doesn't get a mention.

If all the programmes are as unattractive as these first three, extermination might be quite a good alternative.

      Starting with ...?

For those fans of Ron Grainer, Delia Derbyshire, etc., and who are also fans of Dr. Who sound effects here's something which is great fun - just click on the circles to get the music and mash-up your own mix

Not tempted to go along then, Vodders?

Disagree with Voddy's "gimmicky", but he's sur pointilliste about the timing. "Mid-season" would also put the "Family Prom" during the Summer Holidays of most families.

It would be good if it were a mystery concert. You turn up at the RAH, which just happens to be a reincarnation of the Tardis. It then whisks you back (to the accompaniment of Dr Who-style 'wavy screen' music) to an unknown time in music, to experience - say - Mozart at the keyboard, Wagner conducting, or the latest piece from the Ragnoc of Nurg in 2213.

                        Could be popular.

Too late. Dr Who's rival, the evil Dr WTF read my post and time-travelled back to last year to copyright it before I'd even thought of it.

I think he's the eminence grise behind those that run Radio 3...
