Exactly, but they don't seem to want to listen to anyone who doesn't agree with exactly what they're doing.

I agree with RW (on this occasion): far better to have seven Wagner operas performed to an exceptional standard than, say, four Wagner and three mediocre Verdi performances. If you can say where these great Verdi singers and conductors are hiding then let us know. International opera singers and conductors have their schedules mapped out years ahead. It obviously wasn't possible to bring artists of a sufficient calibre together, whereas it was for Wagner, with an admittedly greater pool of Wagnerian talent to call upon.
It is a specious argument of the first order by Wright .
