    TV Proms

Still cant work out on the proms website what Proms are being broadcast live on TV. It mentions on the link about proms being shown on certain days but where is the list of actual TV broadcasts?

The list is here, but it doesn't specify with all of them which will be live.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

In a Proms-related aside, I'm still not entirely sure how Summer BaLs on the CD Review section works, in terms of nominating works covered. I should add, I've been inordinately excited about this since I caught the tail-end of it last summer.

Indeed, I'd be happy to volunteer my services for this.

Not sure what this is for. Is it what EA does? Or who?

During the Proms, when the normal BaL goes on hiatus during 'summer CD Review', forum members nominate a work and discuss it each week. I'm not sure how it functions or who is in charge.

I think you just wade in if you feel you've got a good idea for a BaL that might not have been covered for a while. I'm sure I'm right but wouldn't want any toes trodden on so am open to correction. I look forward to it as well as they always attract a good bit of support (probably more than a genuine BaL sometimes!)

The Last Night is the only Prom that will be shown live on TV.

5 other proms will be shown on as delayed broadcasts on the same day: The first night, prom 33 (8 August), Prom 37 (10 August), Prom 53 (22 August) and Prom 72 (5 September).

18 other proms are being shown on TV, but as recordings and not on the same day as the concerts.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Thanks LHC and mercia - so only the last broadcast live? I could say more (and did, but I've deleted it).

Indeed, many thanks. Even though the absence of 'live' transmissions is a retrograde step, have there ever been so many TV relays? (I've never seen a list like that before, so there may have been - but my recollection is that in former years it was only one or two a week maximum)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think there have been up to 25 before, with a goodly representation of the Hooray for Hollywood, MGM film music, Doctor Who-type concerts on BBC Two.

So could the delayed performances by 'cleaned up' as HS often mentions about recordings? If so, that is rather worrying.

I guess the main "problem" for them televising anything live is what to do in the interval

and they wouldn't be able to do a live 7pm start on BBC4 because of the news (is that right ?)

It would be nice to have BBC4 in HD. Not just for the proms either.

Very annoying, I agree. Especially as they have just launched an HD 'Red Button' service for the tennis at Wimbledon when that will already saturate the two BBC HD channels
