    Proms 2013: my guesses

    May I guess...
Wagner's Rienzi Overture would open the season?
Rachmaninov 2 would be performed by RLPO and Petrenko?
Richard Strauss would be saved for next year's 150th anniversary?
    :)

Would doubt the RLPO/Petrenko. Unusual now for them to appear two seasons on the run. Would not complain if I turn out to be wrong though!

The RLPO's pattern in the last half decade, per the Proms Archive, has been 2008, 2010, 2012, so they might be on the books for 2014. UK orchestras who weren't at The Proms in 2012 included the RSNO, now with a new music director (Peter Oundjian), and the Bournemouth SO and Kirill Karabits. The last Proms appearance for each group was 2011, so they may each well be back. One of them, at the very least.

        I see...
I wish RLPO and Petrenko's Rachmaninov 2 would win a Gramophone Award,
and be performed at the Proms,
        maybe next year...
        :)

saw the guide in a shop today.
thought that meant the programme had been announced...

            Visited the local Waterstones yesterday.
"Yes we have it in stock but its embargoed until Thursday" was the reply!

              which would be right.

Wish I had had a look now, and i could have put you all out of your misery. I assumed it would be all over the radio.
Anyway its wall to wall Wagner ......

I remember one year when the season was due to be announced at 5:00pm.
Somebody at the BBC had obviously pressed the wrong button as it was on the site at noon.

                Oops!

Has anybody looked at the Edinburgh Festival programme? That might give a clue about what orchestras are in the UK during the summer -

The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (11th & 12th August)
Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble (14th & 15th Aug)
Chamber Orchestra of Europe (16th & 18th Aug)
                    Russian National Orchestra (19th & 20th Aug)
                    Tonhalle Orchestra (24th & 26th Aug)
                    Royal Concertgebouw (30th Aug)

& then there's the various chamber groups in the Queen's Hall, plus ensembles & performers in the Contemporary Music strand.

I was in my local WH Smith today and they had a display stand for the guide, but I was told that there was an embargo and they couldn't put it on sale until tomorrow. I just hope they sell it to me at the same half price they did last year!

My local WH Smith no longer has a musical section in its book department.
Some would say it does not even have a book department

My "local" WH Smith involves a tube ride, so isn't that local, but at least it is a very large store, as it is part of the Stratford Westfield Centre.
