It will be good to hear the complete work in concert, rather than the short excerpt everyone knows (which will be heard at the Last Night this year).

It will also be good to hear the short excerpt sung to the right words.

I'm confused. The BBC website says this starts at 7:30pm, finishes at 10:20pm, lasts 130 minutes, and has one interval. So the interval will last 40 minutes?

It's more likely that they're unsure of its length and that they'll have a "filler" after the Proms broadcast.

I was rather puzzled by the statement made by the announcer before the performance that Judas Maccabaeus is not a household name. I wonder sort of household he had in mind -amongst R3 households it probably is familiar enough; in households where classical music is of no interest then I would have thought that the vast majority of the works played at the Proms are not household names, so why pick on this one?

Perhaps he meant the person, rather than the title of the work?

The week's schedule says 10.30, & it's only just squeezed into that. The broadcast will probably over-run by a few minutes

Absolutely - didn't hear it all unfortunately - I had to have a break in the middle for dinner.

I solved that one! My dinner was a glass of Pinot Grigio in the interval. Mind you, at the prices the RAH bars charge nowadays this probably wouldn't work for everyone.

had the misfortune to turn up at the RAH hungry not so long ago. Had a sandwich.

Could have cooked a complete roast dinner for less money.
But they wouldn't let me, obviously !

Perhaps a barbecue could replace the fountain in the middle of the arena?

My partner & his mother aren't too keen on Handel (especially during meals), so it was a choice betwen eating with Handel, or with them. Tough chjoice, but I thought that for the sake of domestic harmony it had better be with them.

First time I've heard this piece and thoroughly enjoying it. Excellent singers.
