Prom 5 (17.7.12): Strauss, Saariaho & Sibelius

Anyone hoping to hear this Proms Plus item via the iPlayer is advised that the the link to the programme is not currently working. When I accessed the Prom itself via the iPlayer a couple of days ago, the file included both the full concert and all but the last minute or so (applause and closing comments) of the Proms Plus item. Unfortunately they have since trimmed the Prom file to just the duration of the concert. Hopefully they will sort out the Proms Plus file before its falsely claimed availability expires on Tuesday night. If not, and you want to hear it, PM me.

I have used the horribly convoluted iPlayer "Contact Us" process to alert the iPlayer Team to the issue but on the basis of previous experience do not hold out much hope of them doing anything about it before the falsely claimed 7 days of 'availability' expires.

Mmmm..I seem to be at odds with the general consensus here as I didn't like her voice at all, even allowing for the hiccups.

It was clear from the TV broadcast - if not on radio - that she was not well and was struggling throughout, finally coming unstuck in Beim Schlafengehen. You may like her voice more when she is fit. :)

Oh dear! Well, I didn't say you would - I said you may! I don't know much about her except that she seems to sing a lot of Strauss. I don't think I'll be trying her CD myself as I'm already in double figures with 4LS

A very fine performance of Sibelius to round off this concert - just been listening on iplayer.

Hadn't realised this wasn't originally conceived as a numbered symphony.

I do like the idea of symphonies in one continuous movement.

I would very much like to hear that, as even during her valiant - if perhaps unwise - struggle at the Prom she sounded to me as if she would be capable of a fine performance when fully fit.
