It doesn't look as if it's going to get an early showing.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I rather enjoyed the extracts from Shaw's play during the interval - as one might imagine it'sa good deal more savage than the musical.

Much as I enjoyed the broadcast there seemed to be visual business which I missed at home. Alun Armstrong was an excellent Alfred Doolittle, and whoever gave the line about Eliza not needing her clothes gave the most wonderful dirty laugh which must have gone a long way to filling the RAH.

A lot of the most visual Proms have been confined to the radio over the past few years. I suppose it's a financial thing, but it does seem a real pity.

indeed it is - I went to the pre proms talk which was about 50 mins - so longer than the broadcast was I think - although it is there in the musical but tends to get glossed over a bit.

Since it was a fully staged, choreographed, propped and costumed production about 70% probably didn't come over ! They even had the "flame lamp" for "Hurricanes hardly ever happen" which was amazing.

I was in about the fourth row of arena standing - I have to say it was the most fantastic staged piece I have ever seen at the proms. It was simply staggering just how good it was - the cast must have been approaching 70 in number.

Have the Proms started yet? So far all I've heard is a relay race and bit of Radio 2.

Don't worry, the tone will be raised in Prom 20, which will feature Tasmin Little and music by John Adams, Debussy and Shostakovitch.

Tonight! Debussy's Pelleas et Melisande: for me, the real First Night of the Proms.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Was it being filmed for later transmission?
