I won't be listening to this as I find the whole thing insufferable.

Tut tut Calleja was marvellous this year in La Boheme at the ROH and I shall be tuning in for his singing at least .

Rather relieved to hear from some like-minded posters. I don't begrudge people their fun, if that's what they like, but it's got little to do with 'classical' music-making IMV. I can't help feeling, too, that the whole fandango of the last night taints the rest of the season: could this vulgarisation of a great music festival be connected with the lowering of standards bemoaned on other proms threads - mobile phones going off, unrestrained coughing, clinking glasses etc?

It's been going on far too long for that - more a relic, I'd say.

                      7:35, BBC1 - Doctor Who.
                      9:00, BBC4 - Inspector Montalbano.

I'm afraid even with the additional Wood Sea Songs, the Last Night ding-dong doesn't begin to compete for me!

Grazie, Ferney! I hadn't spotted that he was back. Repeats of all episodes are on iPlayer until 17 November, I note. Excellent.

I have watched the first two over the last 24 hours; they're well up to the first series (I particularly liked the second episode).

Stopped watching Dr Who a fair while back, turned off by that hysterical background noise, while the TV Montalbano is much inferior to the books.

I'll take me chance with the LNOP. Such a shame that so many are saddened by it, though.

Can't stand the Last Night of the Proms.

Can't be doing with Dr Who or Insp Albano

Mme V off at the paralympics.
I think I'll have to dust down a CD or a book. And perhaps a nice bottle to go with...

I concur almost wholeheartedly. I like hearing a crowd singing Jerusalem. I shall record and watch that. Otherwise, the prog looks a shocker.

Wishing you a pleasant evening, vindecoteaux-du-layon
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
