Debbie Wiseman talks about Richard Strauss during the interval.

So my HD stream is so scrambled that I have to reboot it; then cuts out just before the storm. Verdammt!

Much the best performance of this work I have ever heard live -stunning , captivating and transcendant from first note to last . Probably, the best I have ever heard . No sprawl at all !

Seeing the names of virtually everybody in the TV 'production' scrolling up the screen ( sound engineer, camera persons, stage manager, tea-boy etc) filled me with an anger in that we surely could have had - SHOULD HAVE HAD, in the credits, the names of every player in the superb Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Why oh why is credit never given where credit is due?

Absolutely right. I wonder if the camera crews are aware of how intrusive they sometimes are as they drive left and right in front of the stage, swing cameras on massive booms and obstruct the vision of the incredible Vienna horn players.

I struggle to see the problem with the credits . The VPO is an entity - crediting it credits all of the members .

I assume ,however, that you both enjoyed the sensational performance ??

I do hope E A wasn't disappointed having made the effort to go to Kensington.

With the Lso Live recording so clearly etched on the mind, scarcely could I take in all
This performance was throwing at me at every turn.

A fascinating glimpse into New Year territory, rather a distinctive and deeply voiced encore which I very much
                      expect will have delighted Petrushka.

I believe she lives in a 'gated' community.

I certainly did, and I was thrilled that Haitink's Haydn was so lean and muscular that it would have pleased all 'HIPP'sters as well as the traditionalists.
Being 'on the cusp' of HIPP and tradition myself I was a bit concerned that BH maybe went too far HIPP in the 'slow' movement - almost 'scherzando' in places - surely rather too fast to fully appreciate its harmonic beauties. It was almost as if he was holding up 'two fingers' to the 'authentic movement' as if to say" here we are, the Vienna Philharmonic, and we are NOT playing this movement as a SLOW MOVEMENT".

That must have been very frustrating. The HD stream with rock solid via Squeezebox Touch.

Haydn's not my thing (I'm hoping to rectify that when I eventually grow up in another 30 years or so), but I did make it for the start (no I wasn't one of the latecomers clopping in after the 1st mvt - RAH needs to get a grip on this - Haitink clearly wanted to get on with it) and am glad I did.

The Strauss (RAH organ at significant, darkly unsettling welly and all, thanks be)... What a dark, profound, exquisitely played (including authentic VPO brass fluffs and all) way to end a good and varied Proms season.
